I got to a point in my language journey where I was learning all the material, completing my 20 minutes a day on Duolingo. But whenever I would try to speak to a native speaker, I would freeze and I could only understand every third word! I realised I needed to change my approach if I wanted to be fluent in Spanish.

I started following Spanish-speaking vloggers to help improve my comprehension skills, and doing this really helped me on my language journey.

I have compiled a list of my favourite Spanish speaking vloggers:

  1. Lina Woo — she is a Korean vlogger who lives in Germany. I love her cooking videos and I find her really easy to understand, as she doesn’t speak too fast.
  2. Mate con Mote — this a channel dedicating to highlighting all the amazing cultures across Latin America. Watching their videos not only improve my Spanish skills but I have learnt so much about Latin American culture.
  3. Pelo Bueno — She is a natural hair blogger form Columbia. If you want some hair inspiration, you should definitely check her channel out!
  4. Univision Noticias — Follow for current affairs news across the Americas.

Some tips when watching Spanish-speaking videos on Youtube, you are able to reduce the speed if they are too fast initially. Also, some channels provide captions for their videos. However, do not become too reliant on watching videos with subtitles, that is something I still automatically do and I have to challenge myself to watch videos without the subtitles.
